OUTREACH MINISTRY

Washington Street EntranceSt. John's has a long tradition of mission and service for central Madison. The congregation provides direct support services to those in need in the downtown Madison area. Almost every night, our fellowship hall is used to provide overnight shelter for homeless men. On Monday, Wednesday, and Friday vouchers are also provided for those needing assistance through St. John's emergency relief program. Last year almost $39,000 was distributed in this emergency relief by the congregation.

In cooperation with other congregations, St. John's has offered substantial support to other partners in ministry and Madison area organizations. In the 2012 budget, $20,000 was proposed for the South Central Synod of Wisconsin, The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, Madison Area Lutheran Council, Triangle Ministry, Madison Urban Ministry, Oakwood Foundation, Lutheran Social Services of Wisconsin and Upper Michigan, Porchlight, Off the Square Club, and Lutheran Campus Ministry,
The endowment foundation for the congregation provides grants to partnership ministries as well.

Once each month, St. John's members provide food and staff for the homeless shelters. The meal for all shelters is served at Grace Episcopal Church. Various 12-Step Support Groups hold their regular meetings at St. John's.
