Engagement Teams
Engagement Teams for Shut-Ins, Young Adults, and Street Ministry
St Johns is in the process of developing three teams or groups to engage three specific groups in our congregations life: shut-ins, young adults, and street ministry
The groups focused on shut-ins and senior ministry was begun in the fall of 2011. This group will along with Pastor Ken, call on shut-ins on a regular basis, helping to keep them connected to the congregation.
At the same time, we’ve been doing background work for the second engagement team or action small group. This group will be focused on youth and young adults, people born in 1981 or later. The purpose of this group will be to connect with, chat, engage, and keep in touch with this particular age group in the congregation.
There are 230 people at St. Johns under the age of 30.
The new youth and young adult group will focus on engagement for this group in overall congregational life rather than developing a youth or young adult program. It will use old means and new to connect with people to let them know we are thinking about them and wish them well.
After we get the shut-in ministry small group and youth and family small group going, a third group will be revitalized Just as we will be focused on engagement for senior citizens and youth and young adults, the personnel plan of the congregation calls for the development of a street ministry engagement team. This is perhaps the most unique engagement opportunity available to us.
We already are involved in engagement in the area of street ministry with our hospitality groups every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday and our extensive shelter work. And there are several among us who are very gifted at talking with those who come through our doors, offering a sense of friendship and hospitality. So in some ways we are already doing this. But as time passes we will also want to lift up this kind of engagement and nurture it in our life together. We do not only want to provide shelter, care, and emergency relief. We also want to care as friends.

III John 11: Beloved, do not imitate what is evil but imitate
what is good. Whoever does good is from God.
Revelation of St. John 21:3-5: And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, "See, the home of God is among mortals. He will dwell with them as their God;
they will be his peoples, and God himself will be with them; he will wipe every
tear from their eyes. Death will be no more; mourning and crying and pain will
be no more, for the first things have passed away." And the one who was seated
on the throne said, "See, I am making all things new."
